BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott College baseball team split a doubleheader with Roger Williams University on Saturday afternoon in The Commonwealth Coast Conference action in Beverly, Mass. The Hawks defeated Endicott, 4-2, in game one but the Gulls took the second game, 4-1. Endicott’s \#Ralph Fidaleo\# (Fairfield, Conn.) went 2-for-3 with three RBI in the game two victory.

In game one, neither team could get any offense going as both pitchers were dominant through the first four innings, holding each team to one hit apiece. Endicott got on the board first in the bottom of the fifth as \#Joe Kasabuski\# (Saugus, Mass.) reached on a dropped flyball by the right fielder and moved to third base on a bunt single attempt by \#Mike Russo\# (Natick, Mass.). \#Joe Klein\# (Monroe, Conn.) stepped to the plate and drove an RBI double to right-centerfield that gave the Gulls a 1-0 lead. Klein would come around to score on an RBI single by \#Eric Lemke\# (Southington, Conn.) as Endicott took a 2-0 advantage into the sixth inning.

Roger Williams capitalized on an Endicott miscue in the top of the sixth as Matt Swensen (Charlton, Mass.) reached on a throwing error by Kasabuski. Swensen would come around to score on a Tim Georgen (Bristol, Conn.) single that cut Endicott’s lead to 2-1.

In the top of the seventh, Roger Williams had runners on the corners with one out following a hit batsmen and a fielding error by \#Chris Dominguez\# (Braintree, Mass.) when Tony Trafecanty (Franklin, Mass.) blasted his first career homerun into the bullpen in right field to give RWU a 4-2 lead. \#Mike Russo\# got on base in the bottom of the seventh but the Gulls could not score, as Roger Williams took game one of the doubleheader.

Endicott did all of its damage at the bottom of the order as the numbers 7-through-9 hitters had all the basehits for EC. \#Eric Lemke\# was a perfect 2-for-2 at the dish while Klein and Russo each went 1-for-3. \#Colin McGinn\# (Tolland, Conn.) suffered his first setback of the season by going seven innings and giving up four runs on three hits with six strikeouts.

Roger Williams only mustered three hits off of McGinn but none was bigger than Trafecanty’s three-run homer. Tim Georgen and Zach Porter (Middleboro, Mass.) also picked up hits in the win. P.J. Gouthro (Walpole, Mass.) picked up his first win of the season, going seven innings and giving up two unearned runs and four hits while striking out five.

The Hawks struck first in game two as RWU’s Swensen had an RBI groundout in the top of the second to give the visitor’s an early 1-0 lead. Endicott responded in their half of the third as \#Ralph Fidaleo\# cleared the bases with a three-RBI single to give the Gulls a two run advantage. The Gulls tacked on one more in the fourth on a fielder’s choice and led 4-1 after the inning.

\#Benjamin Petrides\# (Belchertown, Mass.) would not relinquish the lead as he only gave up one hit in the final three innings to hold on for his second win of the season.

Five Gulls registered a hit in the contest including a 2-for-3 day from Fidaleo. \#Eric Lemke\#, \#Colin Sitarz\# (West Hartford, Conn.), \#Joe Kasabuski\# and \#Joe Klein\# also added hits in the win. Petrides pitched well in his second win of the year as the sophomore gave up only one run on two hits with six strikeouts.

Roger Williams received hits from Grant Bolin (Simsbury, Conn.) and Swensen in the setback. Sean Scanlon (Lebanon, Conn.) took the loss for RWU while going six innings and giving up four runs (one earned) on six hits with a pair of strikeouts.

The Blue and Green return to action on Monday when the Gulls (11-7, 5-1 TCCC) host Eastern Nazarene in a conference doubleheader scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Roger Williams (2-15, 1-7) returns home on Tuesday as the Hawks will host Gordon College in a twinbill slated for a 2:00 p.m. start.
