WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – After opening the season with a pair of wins over Framingham State, Endicott College was served up a 12-2 loss by Westfield State and a 14-3 setback at the hands of Denison University. The Blue and Green even out their record at 2-2 after four Spring Break games.

Westfield State was led by Kevin Lyons and Jeff Ackerman, who each drove in four runs in the win. Aaron Messier threw six innings of one-hit relief to help lead the Owls to the victory.

Endicott got to Westfield State starter Phil Towne early, as the Gulls scored two runs on eight hits to take an early 2-0 lead. \#Chris Dominguez\# (Braintree, Mass.) drove home the first Endicott run as he plated \#Andrew Betts\# (Bristol, Conn.), who roped a first-inning double. Rookie\# Ralph Fidaleo\# (Fairfield, Conn.) also notched an RBI, as he stroked a double to left field in the second inning.

That was all the scoring the Gulls would get, however, as the Owls scored a run in the third inning and broke loose for four runs in the fifth, with the big blow coming on a three-run double by Lyons.

Westfield tacked on three runs in both the seventh and eighth innings. Ackerman had an RBI double in the seventh and a three-run homer in the eighth.

Westfield banged 13 hits, including a 3-for-4 effort from Jeff Fields which consisted of a double, two RBI and three runs scored. Lyons was 3-for-4 with two doubles and Ackerman was 2-for-5 with two runs scored.

Messier picked up the pitching victory, allowing one hit and three walks while striking out seven in his six-inning stint.

In the day’s second game, Endicott dropped a 14-3 decision to Denison University. The Big Red jumped out to a four-run lead after the opening frame and expanded their advantage to 6-0 through five innings of action. The Gulls trimmed the margin in half after scoring three runs in the top of the sixth inning, but DU responded with three in the sixth, one run in the seventh and four tallies in the eighth frame. 

Endicott was paced by \#Mike Russo\#'s (Natick, Mass.) 3-for-4 effort which included a run scored. Senior catcher \#Joe Klein\# (Monroe, Conn.) drove in a pair of runs for the Blue and Green in the losing effort.

Denison was led by junior Peter Krieger (New Canaan, Conn.) extended his hitting streak to five games after a 3-for-5 performance with a home run, triple and five RBIs. The reigning North Coast Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week logged his third home run in as many games and has reached base in every game this season. 

Senior catcher Alex Horn (Centerville, Ohio) logged two hits, including his first-career home run, and two RBIs, while classmate Zach Huttie (Cary, N.C.) had a triple, single and an RBI. Rookie Danny Kraus (Westlake, Ohio) went 3-for-5 on the day with two stolen bases, while Matt Forgatch (San Marino, Calif.) also swiped two bases to up his season total to seven. 

On the mound, Park Smith (Warren, N.J.) pitched a gem through 5.2 innings. The senior allowed three unearned runs and struck out eight batters. Sophomore McCavitt Carter (Hanoverton, Ohio) pitched 1.1 scoreless innings in relieve, while senior Aidan Lucas (Evanston, Ill.) tossed two scoreless frames in his first appearance of the season on the hill.
