Endicott Handles Gordon, 9-0, on Senior Day

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's tennis team continued to roll with their sixth straight win of the season as the Gulls defeated Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) crosstown rival Gordon by a score of 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon.

Endicott celebrated Senior Day for captain Maxine Bergstein (Hingham, Mass.) by sweeping through both doubles and singles play to improve to 5-1 in conference play. Bergstein and her partner, freshman Gretta Hartman (Glastonbury, Conn.), outlasted their Gordon opponents at the top doubles flight (8-5) while Bergstein completed the shutout team victory in No. 5 singles play (6-2, 5-7, 10-6) by grinding out a third-set tiebreaker.

At the No. 3 doubles position, the duo of juniors Alexandra Barmore (Southington, Conn.) and Lauren Rahr (Waterford, Conn.), battled Gordon's combination of freshman Caitlin Kwok (Dana Point, Calif.) and sophomore Emily Ontiveros (Sylmar, Calif.), and came out on top with an 8-5 decision.

In other singles action, junior Hayley Barnett (Marlboro, N.J.) at No. 1 singles, Hartman at No. 2 singles, junior Reilly Fitzgibbons (Killingworth, Conn.) at No. 3 singles, junior Gillian Freter (Scituate, Mass.) at No. 4 singles, and junior Alexi Losano (Saugus, Mass.) at No. 6 singles, all won in straight sets. Barnett and Fitzgibbons were also victorious in the No. 2 doubles flight (8-3).

Endicott (7-1, 5-1 CCC) travels to Western New England tomorrow afternoon for a 3:30 p.m. tilt against the Golden Bears. Gordon (4-3, 3-2 CCC) hosts Curry tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
