Women’s Tennis Handles Roger Williams, 8-1

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Endicott women's tennis team extended its winning streak to five straight matches with an 8-1 league victory over Roger Williams University on Saturday afternoon. 

Endicott swept all three doubles flights and used wins from Maxine Bergstein (Hingham, Mass.) and Hayley Barnett (Marlboro, N.J.) at No. 6 (6-1, 6-1) and No. 1 (6-3, 6-2) singles, respectively, to clinch the match. 

Bergstein and Barnett also played pivotal roles in doubles, as Bergstein teamed up with Gretta Hartman (Glastonbury, Conn.) for an 8-6 triumph at No. 1, while Barnett partnered with Reilly Fitzgibbons (Killingworth, Conn.) at No. 2 for an 8-1 decision. Meanwhile, Alexandra Barmore (Southington Conn.) and Lauren Rahr (Waterford, Conn.) rounded out the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win at No. 3.

"We had some really clutch playing in doubles to get the sweep and it put us in a great spot for singles," said Endicott women's tennis head coach Jeremy Howard. "We're now looking forward to a bit of rest before refocusing on Gordon this coming Tuesday." 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Gillian Freter (Scituate, Mass.) claimed her 30th career singles victory with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at No. 4 singles.
  • The victory also moved her into a tie for eighth place all-time on the career singles win list with Brittney Langley '03.
  • Rahr picked up her 19th career singles win with a 6-2, 7-5 triumph at No. 5. 

WHAT'S NEXT 

Endicott (6-1, 4-1 CCC) hosts Gordon on Tuesday, September 26 at 3:30 PM. Prior to the match, Bergstein will be honored for her contributions towards the program and the Endicott Community as part of Senior Day. 

Roger Williams (6-3, 3-2 CCC) visits Wentworth next Wednesday at 4 PM.
