Women’s Tennis Blanks Bridgewater State, 9-0

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's tennis team opened up its 2017 season on Monday afternoon with a 9-0 non-conference victory over Bridgewater State University at the South Campus Tennis Courts.

Hayley Barnett (Marlboro, N.J.), Reilly Fitzgibbons (Killingworth, Conn.), Gretta Hartman (Glastonbury, Conn.), and Lauren Rahr (Waterford, Conn.) highlighted the Gulls' efforts with two wins apiece.

Barnett and Fitzgibbons teamed up for an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles, while also earning wins at No. 1 (6-1, 6-1) and No. 3 (6-4, 6-3) singles, respectively. Meanwhile, Hartman notched an 8-4 triumph at No. 1 doubles with teammate Maxine Bergstein (Hingham, Mass.) and a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-0).

Rahr rounded out the group with an 8-5 triumph at No. 3 doubles with teammate Clare O'Keefe (Lutz, Fla.), in addition to her quick victory at No. 5 singles (6-1, 6-0).

"Great start to the season with a sweep of a feisty Bridgewater State team," said Endicott women's tennis head coach Jeremy Howard. "Next up, we will host a clinic with the women's volleyball team later today, and then we will turn our focus to Nichols."

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Gillian Freter's (Scituate, Mass.) 6-0, 6-0 triump at No. 4 singles was the 24th of her career.
  • Alexi Losano (Saugus, Mass.) picked up her 12th career singles victory with a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 6.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (1-0) will travel to Nichols College on Thursday, September to take on the defending Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) champions at 4 PM.
