Endicott Finishes Regular Season With 1-0 Win Over Gordon

BEVERLY, Mass.- In the 30th meeting all-time between the two programs, the Endicott women's soccer team defeated cross-town rival Gordon 1-0 on Tuesday evening in the final regular season contest for both squads before the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament begins. With the win, Endicott improves to 8-7-2 (5-3-1 CCC) while Gordon falls to 5-7-3 (3-5-1 CCC).

Sharlotte Pernice (West Springfield, Mass.) put Endicott on top early as the freshman scored her third goal of the season in the 17th minute of play. Pernice scored on a quick pass from Laura Wysocki (Somers, Conn.) off a beautifully executed corner from Ashley Mueskes (Georgetown, Mass.) as the two seniors recorded their second and third assists respectively.

That would be all of the offense the two teams would combine for as the match would end with Endicott claiming a 1-0 decision. The Gulls controlled the possession for the majority of the match and as a result, held an advantage in nearly every statistical category including out-shooting the Scots 14-4 and holding a 5-3 advantage in corners.

BEYOND THE BOX

  • Endicott is now undefeated on the season when Pernice scores as the Gulls are 3-0 in those contests, all of which have been CCC wins. Pernice scored her first collegiate in the team's 6-0 victory over Nichols before scoring her first game-winner in the team's 2-0 win over Western New England.
  • For Mueskes, the senior is now second on the team in assists with three while Wysocki moves into a tie with Pernice and Emily Rodewald (Canton, Mass.) for third with two asissts.
  • The Gulls would only need Caroline Armbruster (Stowe, Vt.) to make one save on as she improved to 7-3-2 as the starting keeper. The shutout was her fourth of the season and dropped her goals against average to 0.84 on the season.
  • Endicott is now 20-7-3 all-time against Gordon as the Gulls have embraced a home field advantage, improving to 14-3-1 at Hempstead Stadium.
  • The Gulls are undefeated against the Fighting Scots in the previous 13 years, having last lost to their cross-town rivals on September 14, 2002.

FOR THE FOES

  • Shelby Palafox (Lexington, Mass.) registered the only shot on goal for the Fighting Scots as four total players registered one shot each.
  • McKenzie Dion (North Grafton, Mass.) played well in defeat, making four saves on five shots.
