Wellesley Defeats Women’s Soccer, 2-0

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley junior midfielder Kyla Petrie (Denton, Texas) scored two goals, while senior goalkeeper Kat Goldsmith (Armonk, N.Y.) stopped a pair of shots to lead the Blue past Endicott, 2-0, in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.

Petrie opened up the scoring in the 24th minute when she finished a feed from Maddie Carlborg (Burbank, Calif.) for her first tally of the season. In the second half, Petrie went on to seal the victory for Wellesley with her first career penalty kick goal at the 55:48 mark.

Endicott nearly evened the score at 1-1 in the 51st minute as freshman Alexandra Burgess (Hebron, Conn.) tested Goldsmith, but the senior goalkeeper handled the scoring opportunity cleanly for her first of two saves in the half. Sophomore Emilee Kemnitz (Southington, Conn.) recorded the only other shot on net for the Gulls in 61st minute.

BEYOND THE BOX

  • In her first collegiate start in goal for Endicott, sophomore Caroline Armbruster (Stowe, Vt.) made four saves in the loss including her first career save at the 15:10 mark of the contest.
  • Wellesley limited Endicott to five shots total in the game, the Gulls lowest mark all season.
  • Endicott holds a 4-3-2 advantage in the all-time series, which dates back to 1999, against the Blue. 
  • The Gulls have not scored a goal in their last 374:34 of action (four straight shutouts).

FOR THE FOES

  • Goldsmith is now 9-7-3 all-time in her career in goal.
  • Wellesley earned its fourth shutout this season with today's 2-0 victory.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (1-4 0-1 CCC) looks to rebound in the win column on Friday when the Gulls host Nichols College for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup at 4 p.m. Wellesley (4-1) opens up conference play versus Emerson College on Saturday at 1 p.m. on the road.
