Endicott Falls to Wentworth 1-0 Behind Goal in the 82nd Minute

BEVERLY, Mass.- The Endicott women's soccer team fell to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foe Wentworth 1-0 on Wednesday night. With the setback, Endicott falls to 7-6-2 (4-2-1 CCC) while Wentworth improves to 13-2-1 (6-1-0 CCC).

The defensive battle saw both teams hold the opposing offense scoreless for over 80 minutes of play until the visitors broke through with 8:43 remaining in regulation. The Leopards took the lead as sophomore Ali Leach (Stowe, Vt.) recorded her sixth of the season off a long ball out wide to the right from Heather MacDougall (Exeter, N.H.) that Leach then chipped from 25 yards out over Endicott's keeper and into the netting just inside the far post. The assist is MacDougall's first of the season as she now has played in all 16 Wentworth matches on the season.

Endicott keeper Caroline Armbruster (Stowe, Vt.) would make eight saves in the setback as her record now stands at 6-3-3 since taking over the starting role. Wentworth keeper Micaela Robinson (Goshen, N.Y.) made five saves on the night to improve to 11-2-1 on the year while picking up her fourth shutout.

BEHIND THE BOX

  • Endicott's eight total shots in the match were the lowest since the team's 2-1 loss at Springfield on September 22nd.
  • The eight saves by Armbruster marks the fourth time on the season that the sophomore has recorded at least eight saves in a match. Her season high is 11 in the team's 0-0 draw against Tufts on October 14th.
  • With the loss, the Gulls are now 19-4-1 against the Leopards all-time and 10-2-1 at home in the history of the two programs.

FOR THE FOES

  • With her sixth goal of the season, Leach is now tied with teammates Mary Annon (Concord, N.H.) and Madyson Reno (Simi Valley, Calif.) for the team lead in goals. Leach now has 14 points on the season, good for second behind Annon who currently has 18.
  • Robinson's goals against averages now sits at a miniscule 0.48 as she has only allowed six goals in over 1,115 minutes of play while making 41 saves for an .872 save percentage.
  • Wentworth has now beaten Endicott in two straight contests as the Leopards knocked the Gulls out of the CCC Postseason in 2014 with a 4-2 win in the Quarterfinals.
