Endicott and Roger Williams Battle to 1-1 Double Overtime Draw

Endicott and Roger Williams Battle to 1-1 Double Overtime Draw

BRISTOL, R.I.- The Endicott women's soccer team traveled south to take on Roger Williams on Saturday in the latest installment of the storied rivalry and battled the fourth ranked team in New England in the most recent NSCAA DIII New England poll to a 1-1 double-overtime tie.  With the result, Endicott's record moves to 2-5-1 (1-1-1) on the season while Roger Williams moves to 6-0-3 (2-0-1).

The Gulls got on the board first as sophomore Rachel Hanna (Chelmsford, Mass.) notched her second goal of the season in the 40th minute of play.  Hanna was able to play a short chip shot over the Hawks' keeper after she received a pass into box from Nicole Taylor (North Easton, Mass.).  The assist was Taylor's first of the season as the Gulls would hold the 1-0 through half time.

Despite holding the advantage on the scoreboard, the Gulls were out-shot 10-3 in the first as Endicott keeper Caroline Armbruster (Stowe, Vt.) made three saves to keep the Hawks off the scoreboard.

Roger Williams would counter early in the second half, getting on the board in the 55th minute when Samantha Woznicki (Bristol, Conn.) tallied her first off the season as she received a free kick into the box from teammate Kristen Casey (East Longmeadow, Mass.) to even the score at 1-1.

The Gulls would post six second half shots to seven for Roger Williams as Armbruster would make four saves in the second to preserve the tie and send the match into overtime.

The first overtime would see the Gulls log the only two shots of the frame, as Roger Williams keeper Sydney Martin (Scarborough, Maine) made one save to keep the score at 1-1 and send the two teams into a second overtime period.

Both teams would place two shots on goal in the second overtime, with the rival keepers each saving both of their opportunities to make the regular season matchup between the two squads end in a 1-1 draw.

Sharlotte Pernice (West Springfield, Mass.) would finish the match with a team high three shots while Paige Marinelli (Burlington, Conn.) finished with a team high two shots on goal.
