Endicott Falls To Babson, 1-0, In Non-Conference Action

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott women's soccer team fell to NEWMAC foe Babson College by a score of 1-0 in a tough non-conference battle on Wednesday evening. Endicott now slides to 1-2 on the season, while Babson moves to 4-0.

The visiting Beavers were able to get the game's lone goal in the 69th minute as Meghan Tyson (Scarborough, Maine) fed a through ball to Marissa Endow (Worcester, Mass.) who was able to lift a chip shot over the crashing Endicott keeper to give Babson a 1-0 lead. That would prove to be enough as the final horn would sound with the visitors departing with a 1-0 win.

Endicott keeper Kristin Hartlage (Niskayuna, N.Y.) posted six saves on seven shots as she fell to 1-2 on the season, while her Babson counterpart, Elizabeth Mycock (Windham, Maine) posted her fourth straight shutout after making four saves to improve to 4-0.

BEYOND THE BOX

  • The Endicott loss now evens the all-time series between the programs at 4-4 and snaps a streak of two straight overtime victories for the Gulls.
  • There have now been three 1-0 matches in the series, with the last one being a Babson win at Babson on September 25, 2012, and the previous being an Endicott win at Babson on September 23, 2010.
  • The six saves for Hartlage set a new career high, besting her performance in Saturday's 1-0 setback against Keene St.

FOR THE FOES

  • With her fourth consecutive shutout to start the season and her career, Mycock is almost halfway to Babson's single-season shutout record of 10 set in 1995 by Steph Baloauras, and tied in 2011 by Lisa Wojnar.
  • After today's game winning goal, junior Marissa Endow now has three career goals, this being her first game winner. Of her two previous goals, her first came in her first collegiate match against St. John Fisher in a 3-2 win, while the second came her sophomore year in a 2-0 win over Emmanuel.
  • The 4-0 start ties the best Babson start under head coach Nellie Pineault as the Beavers previously started 4-0 in 2013 as well. Babson finished the 2013 season with a 10-4-5 record overall and with a loss to MIT in the NEWMAC Semifinals on penalty kicks to MIT.

WHAT'S NEXT

For Endicott, the women now turn their attention to Saturday when they travel to Biddeford, Maine for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) showdown against the University of New England in the conference opener for both squads scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.  The Gulls return home on Friday, September 18 when they play host to CCC foe Nichols.  For Babson, the Beavers return home for a three match homestand that starts on Saturday when they play host to Rutgers-Newark before hosting New England College on Sunday, and then UMass Boston on Wednesday. The Beavers open up NEWMAC play on September 19 at Mount Holyoke.
