Endicott Nets 6-1 Victory Over UMass Boston in Non-Conference Action

BEVERLY, Mass.- The Endicott women's soccer team hosted UMass Boston in non-conference action on Thursday evening and the Gulls claimed an impressive 6-1 win. With the victory, Endicott moves to 3-5-1 (1-1-1 CCC) on the season while UMass Boston falls to 3-6-1 (2-0-0 LEC).

Laura Wysocki (Somers, Conn.) got the Gulls on the board just under seven minutes into play as she received a pass from Ashley Mueskes (Georgetown, Mass.) and fired a shot from 18 yards out that beat UMass Boston keeper Alyssa Fugiel (Easthampton, Mass.) inside the left post. Mueskes would then double the Endicott lead less than two minutes later when she received a Paige Marinelli (Burlington, Conn.) cross deep in Beacon territory and fired a shot on frame that beat the opposing keeper to grow the lead to 2-0.

The Gulls would again double the lead as they received quick back-to-back goals from Madison McKinley (Shrewsbury, Mass.) to close out the first.  McKinley's goals came in the 40th minute and the 41st minute as the lead grew to four. The senior's first tally came off a long cross from Nicole Taylor (North Easton, Mass.) that McKinley was able to chip over the goalie while her second strike came from 20 yards out and glanced off the keeper's hands to find the back of the net.

Endicott would then see freshman Olivia Ozycz (Old Saybrook, Conn.) score the first two goals of her career in the 50th minute and the 55th minute as the Gulls' lead would expand to 6-0.  Ozycz's first career tally came off of a lofted cross into the box from Marinelli that would evade Fugiel and find Ozycz behind the keeper as she buried the shot in the net. Her second goal, just under five minutes later, came as she was on the receiving end of a Sharlotte Pernice (West Springfield, Mass.) pass that Ozycz put away easily. On the play, Pernice displayed great ball skills as she beat one defender wide then was able to shake a second and find her fellow freshman moving towards goal.

UMass Boston senior Alex Levesque (Methuen, Mass.) would score in the 82nd minute to give the Beacons their lone tally of the match as she took a shot from 15 yards out and placed it beautifully in the top right corner to beat Endicott keeper Shelby Elwell (Litchfield, Conn.)

BEYOND THE BOX

  • Endicott saw four players (Marinelli, McKinley, Mueskes and Ozycz) record multi-point performances in the win, the most since Endicott's 8-1 win over UNE on October 26, 2013.
  • The Gulls saw two different players score two goals each (McKinley & Ozycz), the first time that has happened since October 24, 2012 in the team's 8-0 win over Wentworth. On that date, the Gulls actually saw three members post multi-goal games as Vanessa Caruccio ('13) tallied a hat trick while Lexi Dussi ('15) and Madison McKinley ('15) each registered two.
  • Endicott now improves to 3-2-1 all-time against the Beacons and 2-0-1 all-time at the Nest.
  • In each of Endicott's last two home matches, the Gulls have won and have posted six goals in each victory; a 6-1 win over UMass Boston today, and a 6-0 win over Nichols on September 18.

FOR THE FOES

  • Alex Levesque's goal in the 82nd minute was the first of the senior's three year career as she was playing in her 32nd career game.
  • UMass Boston allowed more than three goals for the first time all season as the previous high came on Tuesday in a 3-1 loss to Salem State.
  • Fugiel's six saves were her second lowest save total of the season as only her five save performance in the team's 1-0 win over Southern Maine.
