Five Gulls Receive IWLCA All-Pilgrim Honors

IWLCA All-Region Release

GRAND LAKE, Colo. – The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) has announced their selections for the All-Pilgrim Region and five Gulls have been recognized. Senior Kelsey Barnes (Mendham, N.J.) and junior Ellie Clayman (Beverly, Mass.) have earned First Team honors while seniors Rachel Campos (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Callie Murphy (Woburn, Mass.) along with freshman Emily Whitney (Rye, N.H.) all earned Second Team honors. This marks the second time the Endicott women's lacrosse program has had five members honored in one season, the last being in 2008.

Barnes, a two-time Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Defensive Player of the Year, is earning her second recognition by the IWLCA being named to the Second Team last season. The defender helped lead one of the league's top ranked defenses to their ninth consecutive CCC title while being tied for second in caused turnovers (20) while recording 24 ground balls and 13 draw controls. Barnes has led a defensive unit that allowed 173 goals and recorded a 76.5 winning percentage.

Clayman has been a consistent member of the Endicott midfield becoming a threat both offensively and defensively. The junior is third on the team in goals (37) and tied for second in caused turnovers (20). The midfielder has been a part of a midfield that holds 243 draw controls on the season compared to the 188 by their opponents. Clayman also helped a strong defensive unit that caused 166 turnovers and held a 9.58 goals against average.

Murphy is this seasons CCC Co-Offensive Player of the Year leading the team in points (87) and assists (45). Murphy has consistently been a play maker for the Gulls offense having a 71.1 shot on goal percentage. The attacker also posed a strong midfield game this season picking up 18 groundballs, and 15 caused turnovers while being tied for first in draw controls (69).

Campos has been a solid midfielder for the Blue and Green this season, tied for first on draw controls (69) while recording 14 goals and six assists. Campos has a taste for strong defense as she leads the team in caused turnovers (21) while picking up a team high 37 groundballs.

Whitney, the programs first CCC Rookie of the Year has posted a strong rookie campaign leading the team in goals (50) while coming in behind Murphy in points with 62. The attacker has scored at least one goal in 17 of the 18 games played this season while posting two five-goal games and six four-goal games. Whitney holds an impressive 88.6 shots on goal percentage.

The Gulls (14-4, 7-1) wrapped up their season over the weekend as they fell to #9 Middlebury in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament after claiming the programs ninth consecutive CCC title over Roger Williams in a 14-13 buzzer beater victory.

The IWLCA has honored 256 student-athletes in Division III with a selection on one of the All-Regional teams for 2014. These student-athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced on Monday May 19. The IWLCA will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on Saturday June 7, 2014 at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pa.
