BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's lacrosse team remained unbeaten in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play as they triumphed over Wentworth 23-8 at Endicott Stadium on Tuesday afternoon behind six first-half points from freshman attacker Emily Whitney (Rye, N.H.) and strong defense from senior midfielder Rachel Campos (Shrewsbury, Mass.) who caused five turnovers in the game.
Endicott 8-1 (4-0 CCC) has now run their current win streak to six games including their last four over conference opponents. The Gulls will look to make it seven in-a-row on Thursday with a road game at Southern Maine (2-4) which starts at 4:00 pm.
Wentworth (3-5, 0-2 CCC) saw seven different players record a goal with freshman attacker Brandie Holland (Lynn, Mass.) netting two goals while junior Alexandrea Banks (Ellington, Conn.) caused six turnovers, collected eight ground balls, and scored a game in a solid overall effort. The Leopards will look to return to the win column on Saturday, April 5th with a road game at CCC rival Nichols.
Whitney's six-point game was complemented by a hat trick from freshman midfielder Meghan Lennon (Canton, Mass.), freshman attacker Sofia Filippi (Hudson, Mass.), and junior attacker Katie Tierney (South Hadley, Mass.) as well as two goals and two assists from junior midfielder Ellie Clayman (Beverly, Mass.).
Dishing out the assists were senior midfielder Callie Murphy (Woburn, Mass.) who had a game-high four while junior midfielder Siri Mason (Williamstown, Mass.) totaled three assists.
Endicott had the advantage on draw controls 23-8 with Lennon snatching a game-high seven and Murphy adding five. On the defensive side of the ball, the Blue and Green caused 23 turnovers as Campos' five led the way for Endicott with Whitney, Murphy, and freshman midfielder Chelsea Burke (Georgetown, Mass.) all registering two caused turnovers.
Banks, for Wentworth, led all players with six of her team's 16 caused turnovers. Junior midfielder Heather Saroch (Arnold, Md.) added three caused turnovers with Beverly Farris (Palmer, Mass.) causing two and matching Holland with a game-high eight ground balls.
In net, Ryan Socolow (Westford, Mass.) earned the win as Endicott held a 16-5 lead after 30 minutes of play. Socolow gave way to junior goalie Michelle Truncali (Unionville, Conn.) who made two saves and allowed just three goals on five shots faced.
