Gulls Cruise Past Beavers, Clayman and Whitney Tally Five Points Apiece

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott (2-0) women's lacrosse team played host to non-conference opponent Babson (0-3) on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Emily Whitney (Rye, N.H.) tallied five goals while junior Ellie Clayman (Beverly, Mass.) nailed nine total points to help guide the Gulls to a 15-9 victory over the Beavers. Senior goalkeeper Ryan Socolow (Westford, Mass.) made an impressive 16 saves in the contest to help in the defensive end in the win.

The Gulls outshot the Beavers 13-9 in the first half while dominating on ground balls 11-4. To start off the half rookie Meghan Lennon started the scoring by nailing her third goal of the season in the opening minutes with help from junior Katie Tierney (South Hadley, Mass.) who earned the assist.

Two minutes later Clayman posted her first goal of the game and followed up with a second goal five minutes later to tally her sixth goal of the season and give the Blue and Green a 3-0 lead. To continue to the scoring spree for Endicott Tierney gave it a try with help from Lennon to make it a four score game by the 14:11 mark.

 The Beavers finally answered back when leading scorer, junior Rachel Secrist (Westford, Mass.) snuck the first goal of the game past Socolow. Less than one minute later Babson made it a two goal game after senior Misha Beatty (Westwood, Mass.) tallied her second goal of the season.

To answer back the Gulls went on to score five unanswered goals to close out the half on top. The first came from Whitney for her first goal of the game with help from senior Callie Murphy (Woburn, Mass.) who came out with the assist. In the final three minutes of the half the Blue and Green scored three straight goals. Murphy hit her first goal of the season followed by three consecutive goals from the rookie Whitney as she earned her sixth on the season to close out the half with a 9-2 lead.

The second half showed a Beavers squad that outscored the Gulls 7-6 and took double the shots than Endicott at 20-9. To start off the half junior Siri Mason (Williamstown, Mass.) tallied her third goal of the season at the 26:34 mark. Babson answered back on a man up opportunity as freshman Kiley Fischer (Marblehead, Mass.) worked with Secrist to sneak the ball past Socolow.

The Blue and Green starting lighting up the scoreboard as they tallied three straight goals, led by Murphy who hit two in a row, prior to a combo play with Clayman and Lennon to make it a 13-3 game with 12:07 left in the game. Not letting the Beavers go down quietly, Seacrist to matters into her own hands and hit her sixth and seven goals of the season one minute apart to get back within eight.

In the final seven minutes of play the Beavers outscored the Gulls 4-2 but it was not enough as Clayman and Whitney sealed the game at 15-9.

Overall, senior Rachel Campos was on her game on the draws as she forced 16 total draw controls on the day while she and Mason led the team in caused turnovers with three apiece.

Endicott will pick back up on Tuesday, March 11th when they host their first ranked opponent of the season #12 Bowdoin at 7:00 p.m. Babson will play next on Wednesday, March 12th when they travel to Bates for a 5:00 p.m. start.
