Gulls Cruise Past Nichols in CCC Play

DUDLEY, Mass. – The Endicott women's lacrosse team traveled to Nichols College on Saturday afternoon for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup. Senior Callie Murphy (Woburn, Mass.) posted three goals and three assists in the 17-3 victory. The Gulls improve to 7-1 (3-0 CCC) while the Bison fall to 4-3 (0-1 CCC).

The first half showed a strong Blue and Green squad that posted 10 goals to Nichols two. Endicott opened up the half with eight straight goals before Nichols was able to find the back of the net. Freshman Emily Whitney (Rye, N.H.) started the scoring in the opening minutes as she posted back to back goals with help from Murphy.

In a five minute span the Gulls posted five more goals, the first coming from senior Rachel Campos (Sudbury, Mass.) at the 17:31 mark. Juniors Katie Tierney (South Hadley, Mass.) and Kirsten Thor (Longmeadow, Mass.) followed with a set of goals in less than one minute.

To wrap up the impressive run freshman Emily Cutting (Ferrisburgh, Vt.) posted her first goal in a Blue and Green uniform while Murphy hit her first of the game on a free position shot.

After a scoreless six minutes Murphy hit her second free position shot of the game to make it an 8-0 score. 30 seconds later the Bison finally answered back when junior Alyssa Buffs (Linden, N.J.) slipped the ball past senior goalkeeper Ryan Socolow.

Freshman Meghan Lennon (Canton, Mass. ) and Murphy  ended the second half with a goal each while tabbing an assist on each other's goals. The Bison were able to sneak one more past Socolow in the final minutes of the half to make it a 10-2 game.

The second half posed a more conservative Endicott squad who posted seven goals to Nichols one while junior goalkeeper Michelle Trunali (Unionville, Conn.) made her debut between the pipes wearing the Blue and Green. Truncali made an impressive seven saves in the 24:41 minutes of play while allowing zero goals.

Nichols started the second half scoring in the opening five minutes as sophomore Alexa Smith (Salem, N.H.) posted her second goals of the game, which marked the last Bison goal of the game. Less than a minute later junior Ellie Clayman (Beverly, Mass.) answered right back as the Gulls leading scorer posted her 19th goal of the season with help from Tierney who earned the assist.

Cutting followed with her second goal of the game while freshman's Jessica Buckley (Mansfield, Mass.), and Sofia Filippi (Hudson, Mass.) each posted two goals in the half which marked their first in a Gulls uniform. Clayman knocked one into the back of the net as the Gulls soared to a 17-3 victory.

Murphy played an overall strong game adding nine draw controls and four groundballs to her three goals and three assists.

Endicott will see action next on Tuesday, April 1st at 4:00 p.m. when they host CCC opponent Wentworth.
