Whitney Takes Rookie of the Week Honors

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) announced their weekly awards and freshman Emily Whitney (Rye, N.H.) was awarded her second Rookie of the Week nod this season for her efforts in the Gulls 3-0 week as they improve to 10-1 (5-0 CCC) overall.

The attacker recorded 11 goals on the week and three assists for a total of 14 points. With her scoring abilities this week Whitney bumped up into the leading position in goals on the season for Endicott (28).

In the 23-8 victory over CCC opponent Wentworth Whitney found the back of the net four times while recording two assists in the victory. In the tight 11-9 decision over non-conference opponent Southern Maine the rookie tallied a man up goal in the second half that gave the Gulls the lead for the rest of the game after being down by one and tied up by teammate Callie Murphy. In the contest she totaled four goals. To cap off the week in their second conference game on the week Whitney dished out an assist and picked up three goals in the 10-4 decision.

 Whitney currently is shooting 87.5% on goal this season while leading the team in goals. Along with her teammate Meghan Lennon (Canton, Mass.) combined they have swept Rookie of the Week honors for five straight weeks, two from Whitney and three from Lennon.

Endicott will see action next on Wednesday, April 9th when they host their third ranked opponent of the season, #18 Tufts at 7:00 p.m.
