Women’s Tennis Blanks Colby-Sawyer, 9-0

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's tennis team defeated Colby-Sawyer, 9-0, in the season opener for both programs on Saturday afternoon at the South Campus Tennis Courts.

Kaitlin Fitzgibbons (Nashua, N.H.) and Shelby Henry (Lincoln, Neb.) highlighted the Gulls with victories in singles and doubles play.

Fitzgibbons and Henry paired up for an 8-4 triumph at No. 2 doubles before winning in their respective singles matches in the No. 4 (6-1, 6-3) and No. 3 (6-2, 6-0) slots.

Also in doubles, the No. 1 pairing of Ashley Keaveney (Exeter, N.H.) / Olivia Martinelli (Coral Springs, Fla.) posted an 8-6 victory, while Ana Mar Molina (Sachse, Texas) / Amber Woods (Scarborough, Maine) topped their opponents at No. 3 by an 8-1 score.

The remaining singles wins for the Gulls included Lejla Guster (Wethersfield, Conn.) at No. 1 (6-3, 6-1), Ripley Uyeda (Ranchos Palos Verdes, Calif.) at No. 2 (6-2, 6-3), Samantha Hartmann (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J.) at No. 5 (6-0, 6-0), and Abbey Fleming (Wolfeboro, N.H.) at No.6 (6-2, 7-5).

"It was a nice match to start the season. We worked through some nerves and emotions, but it was great to see our student-athletes support each other throughout the match, along with our friends, parents, and alumni who were in attendance today," said Endicott women's tennis Anthony D'Angelo.

  • Fleming and Woods earned their first collegiate victories.
  • Endicott has not lost a season opener since 2016-17.

Endicott (1-0) travels to NCAA Division I Stonehill College on Saturday, September 9 at 12 PM. The Chargers host the Colby-Sawyer Tennis Jamboree tomorrow.
