Beverly, MA-- In a non-conference match up, the Gulls defeated St. Joe's of Maine, 5-0. EC's early attack proved to be too much for the Monks, as the Gulls scored three goals in the first 14 minutes of play.
Freshman forward Paula McGinn continued her scoring ways. By receiving a ball from fellow freshman Margreta Weber, McGinn was able to perfectly kick the ball into the back of the net. Senior co-captain, Lauren Suarez tallied the next goal for the Gulls. Off of a Jillian Zagura corner, Suarez headed the ball into the net, scoring her second career goal. For the third goal of the half, senior co-captain Leah Walters dribbled through the Monk defense, and fired a shot past the oncoming SJC goalkeeper, giving Walters her tenth goal of the season.
Weber would assist her second goal of the game with 15 minutes remaining, by finding Erica Hunt's feet at the top of the 18-yard box. Hunt ripped a shot over the St. Joe's keeper, scoring her first collegiate goal. With seven minutes left in the game, Kim Shields fed Katrina Perkins a through ball, who shot it into the back of the net, scoring her second goal of the season.
Tina Loguidice was awarded the shutout in net, with the help of her solid defense. The Gulls improve their overall record to 10-4.
EC is back to Conference play this Wednesday, as they travel to Regis College. Kick off is 3:00pm.
