Dudley, MA-- The Endicott women's soccer team handed Nichols College their first loss of the 2004 season, by defeating the Bison 2-1. Going into the match, NC was undefeated in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC). Playing against a tough opponent, EC was able to come away with an important win.
After a scoreless, evenly matched first half, the Gulls were fired up for the remaining 45 minutes. Dominating in the midfield, EC was able to put consistent pressure on the NC defense. In the 54th minute, senior co-captain Leah Walters dribbled through the Bison defense. Finding Stacy Lubas' run into the box, Leah passed the ball across the goal mouth. Lubas tapped the ball into the back of the net, giving the Gulls a 1-0 advantage.
A little over ten minutes later, the Gulls would add to their lead. In the same fashion as Leah's attack, Caitlin D'Amario penetrated the NC defense, passing the ball across the goal. This time it was Leah who recorded the goal with a volley into the back of the net.
The Bison would cut EC's lead in half, with 15 minutes remaining in the game. However, NC could not score again, giving EC the win.
The Gulls overall record improves to 6-4, 4-1 in the CCC. The women are back in action this Wednesday when they travel Henniker, NH to take on CCC member New England College. Kick off is 4pm.
