Beverly, MA--The EC women's soccer team fought hard today against regionally ranked, Western Connecticut. After regulation, the score was tied at 2-2. In sudden death overtime, the Colonials netted the game winner, giving them the 3-2 victory.
Senior co-captain Leah Walters started the scoring, when she found the back of the net in the 6th minute of play. The Gulls struck again in the 29th minute. Staci Wiencko finished a corner kick from Jillian Zagura, giving EC a 2-0 advantage. For the remainder of the half, the score stayed the same.
Western Connecticut's Jessica Gomes scored their first goal of the match in the 62nd minute, narrowing the gap by one. Eight minutes later, Colonial Nicole Corbin evened the score, sending the game into overtime. In the first sudden death overtime period, Lia Pellegrino-Young scored the game ending goal in the 97th minute, giving WCSU their 4th win of the 2004 season.
The Gulls match-up against out of conference rival, Salem State College tomorrow at Salem, kick-off is at 6PM.
