Wenham, MA-- In a cross town rival match up, the Endicott women's soccer team defeated Gordon College, 3-1. Coming from behind, the Gulls were able to win. Freshman Paula McGinn scored the tying and winning goals.
Scoring early in the first half, the Fighting Scots were able to capitalize on a loose ball in the back. The Gulls did not let down their offensive pressure, and ten minutes after the Gordon goal, McGinn broke through the GC defense, and ripped a shot into the back of the net, scoring the equalizer. The score remained tied for the rest of the first half.
Fired up at the start of the second half, the Gulls put immediate pressure on the Scots' defense. In the first minute of play, McGinn dribbled towards the goal, losing the ball, but fought to get it back. Shooting from the top of the 18-yard box, the ball sailed just over the keeper's reach, giving McGinn what would be the game winning goal.
Adding to their lead was senior co-captain Leah Walters. Walters flicked the ball past the GC defender. Catching up to it, she ripped a shot into the opposite upper 90. EC held onto their two-goal lead for the remainder of the game.
The EC defense, led by Staci Wiencko and Lauren Suarez, was solid in the back, allowing the Gulls to dominate and possess throughout a majority of the game.
The Gulls will break from CCC play this Saturday with a home game against St. Joseph's College. Kick off is 1:00pm.
