Gulls Overpower Nor'easters

BEVERLY, MA - Sara Gunter (Kennebunk, ME/Kennebunk) scored three goals and added two assists as the Endicott College women's lacrosse team upended the University of New England, 17-5 on Tuesday afternoon in Beverly.

Gunter put the Gulls on the board just two minutes into the game as she slashed her way through the Nor'easter defense to beat UNE goalie Kristin Schrepper (Turner, ME/Leavitt Area) and give EC a 1-0 lead. Lindsay Nance (Beverly, MA/Hamilton-Wenham) answered back quickly for UNE, tying the game at 1-1 less then a minute later.

The Blue and Green answered with seven straight goals over the next 14 minutes to open the game up and take an 8-1 lead. Hannah Pelletier (Kennebunk, ME/Kennebunk) and Alex Pearce (Underhill, VT/Kimball Union) scored back-to-back goals just 11-seconds apart to ignite the Gulls offense into the scoring run.

The Nor'easters managed to beat senior goalie Erin Curry (Hampstead, NH/Gould Academy) for two more goals but once again Endicott's offense responded by closing the half with goals from Gunter, Emily Judd (Peabody, MA/Peabody) and Lauren Carelli (Brookline, NH/Hollis-Brookline) giving the Gulls an 11-3 lead that the break.

EC came out of half time firing on all cylinders as the Gulls sealed the victory with four consecutive goals making it 15-3 before the Nor'easters could respond. UNE would score back-to-back goals but a second goal from Pelletier and a goal from Kristen Micho (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) seal the 17-5 win for the Blue and Green.

Curry and Molly Hamel (North Yarmouth, ME/Greely) split time between the pipes for EC combining to stop 11 shots while Bethany Pitton (Montpelier, VT/Montpelier) and Schrepper combined to make 22 saves for UNE.

Endicott was led by Gunter's five points also saw solid games from Emily Judd, who netted four goals, and Molly Moss (Yarmouth, ME/NYA) who picked up a goal and two assists in the win. Freshmen Kristen Micho and Valerie Feldman (Albany, NY/Guilderland) also played well for the Gulls as Micho netted two goals and Feldman added a goal and two assists.

Endicott improves to 8-5 overall and 5-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the win, while the loss drops UNE to 1-11 overall and 1-7 in the CCC. The Gulls will wrap up their regular season schedule this week as they head to New London, NH to take on the Colby-Sawyer Chargers on Thursday at 4:00 pm. EC will play its final regular season game Saturday in Newport, RI against Salve Regina University at 1:00 pm.
