BEVERLY, Mass. — Endicott men's volleyball senior student-athlete Will Perry (San Mateo, Calif.) has earned an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Coaches 4 Coaches scholarship to attend their convention in Omaha, Nebraska from December 14-17.
Perry earned the scholarship through his current semester-long internship experience with the Boston College (BC) women's volleyball program.
Perry started his internship with the team in July as a Director of Volleyball Operations intern before being promoted to Volunteer Assistant Coach in September.
BC is 19-13 overall on the season and set to host the opening rounds of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship in early December.
"Will's ability to connect with the staff and players so quickly and effectively made it a no-brainer for us to move him into more of a coaching role," said Boston College women's volleyball head coach Jason Kennedy. "In a very short amount of time, he has made himself indispensable to us, and it is clear his passion for coaching and the sport will propel his career forward."
The Coaches 4 Coaches Scholarship program was conceived as a way to engage young coaches and recent college graduates who are interested in pursuing the coaching profession.
Scholarship recipients have the opportunity to interact with successful coaches from all levels and explore the networking and educational opportunities available at the 2022 AVCA convention in order to get a head start on their coaching careers.
Perry was one of 14 recipients nationwide to earn a spot in the AVCA Coaches 4 Coaches Scholarship program.
"It has been great to watch Will's love for the sport extend to the coaching ranks. I've been able to watch his energy and passion on the sidelines with his club team, Bay to Bay, and it is obvious that our coaching world will be better off with him in it," said Endicott men's volleyball head coach George Chapell '08.
"Joining the staff at BC has provided Will with a great opportunity to accelerate his career once his playing days have wrapped up. It has also been great to watch him carry over his experience and knowledge to the court setting, as the game has slowed down for him. You can tell in his personal development on the court that he sees the game in a different way now which will only help him during his senior campaign in the coming months."
