Men’s Tennis Bests Emerson, 7-2

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott men's tennis team defeated Emerson, 7-2, on Friday evening at the South Campus Tennis Courts.

In doubles play, the Gulls jumped out to a 2-1 advantage thanks to a forfeit at No. 3 and a swift 8-0 victory at No. 2 from Antonio Marsallo (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) / Julian Richtarich (Naples, Fla.).

Another forfeit at No. 6 singles moved Endicott ahead 3-1 on the scoreboard before Hudson De Risi (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) made it 4-1 with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at No. 5.

Brennan Nick (Tolland, Conn.) eventually clinched the match at No. 2 (6-4, 6-1), while Marsallo and Oliver Pope (Dartmouth, Mass.) secured victories at No. 4 (6-0, 6-1) and No. 3 (2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (10-7)) to round out the remainder of the individual highlights for the Gulls.

"Our mentality heading into the match was more disciplined," said Endicott men's tennis head coach Anthony D'Angelo. "We have another opportunity tomorrow to stay sharp, but the boys attacked well today."

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott has won three in a row.
  • Marsallo and Pope lead the team in singles victories with four each.
  • Marsallo and Richtarich remained undefeated in doubles play (3-0).

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (4-6) hosts Suffolk tomorrow at 12 PM. Saturday's match will serve as Senior Day for the Gulls. Emerson (0-17) visits MIT on Wednesday, April 12 at 4 PM.
