Men's Soccer Falls To No. 17 Middlebury In Hard-Fought Matchup, 1-0

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — The Endicott men's soccer team fell to No. 17 nationally ranked Middlebury, 1-0, in a hard-fought matchup on Tuesday evening at South Street Field.

Tied 0-0 late in the contest, Middlebury converted a penalty kick at 74:00 mark for the eventual game-winner. 

Endicott threatened with a late comeback attempt, but the Panthers' defense stood tall in the final minutes to secure the victory.

In goal, Brett Roy (Newport, Vt.) stopped one shot in the loss (0-2-1).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Today's match was the first-ever meeting between the programs.
  • A season-high seven student-athletes played the full 90 minutes for Endicott.
  • Billy deCastro (Stonington, Conn.) and Aidan Sheehan (Arlington, Mass.) both started and played a new career high in minutes (72 minutes for deCastro, 88 minutes for Sheehan).
  • The Endicott defense held Middlebury's offense, which came in averaging 4.2 goals per game, to its lowest-scoring output of the season.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (2-4-1, 0-0-1 CCC) returns home to Hempstead Stadium on Saturday to take on the Suffolk Rams at 11 AM. No. 17 Middlebury (4-0-1) welcomes Bowdoin to its campus on Saturday at 12 PM.
