Men's Golf Finishes 2nd at USM Invitational

GORHAM, Maine-  The Endicott Men's Golf team traveled to Maine for the third time this season and came out with their second consecutive runner-up title.  The team shot a combined 593 over the two day U. of Southern Maine Invitational while averaging an individual score of 151.  The Gulls were seven strokes back over Invitational champion Husson who shot a combined 586.

Leading the way for the Blue and Green was senior Jackson Wyman (South Freeport, Maine) who placed second individually.  Wyman was able to post a two day total of 145 after shooting an opening round 72 followed by a second round 73.  His 145 was three strokes back of Husson's Bill Hutchins who shot a 69 on the first day before tying Wyman with a 73.

Right behind Wyman was Nick Erlichman (Shrewsbury, Mass.) as he notched a two day total of 147.  The junior was able to shoot a 72 and a 75 on his way to tying for fifth individually.  Freshman Austin Teal (Loudonville, N.Y.) was third for the Gulls and 14th overall as he shot rounds of 76 and 75 for a 151 total.  Ian Teal (Loudonville, N.Y.) was fourth for Endicott and 25th overall as the junior recorded a two day total of 155 after shooting rounds of 81 and 74.  Junior captain Jack Carroll (West Hartford, Conn.) rounded out the scoring for the Gulls as he finished in a tie for 33rd by shooting round of 76 and 82 for a 158 total.

Head Coach Tom Smith was thrilled with how his team performed over the two day event.  "The guys had an outstanding weekend with a score of 593," said Smith.  "We have to tip our hats to Husson who beat us by 7 shots with 586.  We played some great golf and had some very low scores."

The Gulls travel to Westfield, Mass. this Saturday as they take part in the Westfield State Invitational at the Tekoa Country Club.  First tee time is scheduled for noon.

This will be the last tune-up for Endicott before they head to Bernardston, Mass. to take part in the ECAC DIII New England Championship.  The two day event will take place on October 20-21st.  Coach Smith feels as though his guys are rounding into form right in time for the tournament.  "We look good and are ready to compete for the ECAC Championship on 10/20."
