Springfield Ends EC's Win Streak

Beverly, MA-- The Endicott Gulls took a break from Commonwealth Coast Conference action, as they hosted the Springfield College Pride. The Gulls headed into the game on a seven game winning streak, but they were unable to fight off the Pride. Endicott turnovers coupled with Springfield steals gave the Pride a 79-70 victory.

In the first half, both teams struggled to keep possession. EC turned the ball over 13 times, while the Pride had nine. But it was the Gulls who were able to outshoot the Pride, 52.2% from the field, compared to the Pride's 34.3%. The Gulls were 6-for-9 from beyond the arc, while the Pride was 1-for-9. However, the Pride chipped away at a 13-point deficit, and EC took a two-point lead heading into halftime.

In the second half, the Gulls maintained their lead until the 7:55 mark. Off a three pointer by Derek Yvon, Springfield jumped up by one, giving them their first lead of the game, and the one-point advantage, 56-55. The Gulls pulled within two, as Josh Oxton powered through the lane and notched two for EC. Pride's Kyle Marian fouled Oxton on his way to the hoop. Oxton hit his free throw, pulling EC within two. However, The Pride's next two trips down the court ended in three-point plays, while EC was unable to put points on the board in the final minutes, giving SC the win.

Zach Ellis led the Gulls with 18 points and four assists. Ellis was 6-for-9 from behind the arc. Both Oxton and Matt George chipped in 15-points apiece, while each dishing out four assists. George pulled down six defensive rebounds for the Gulls.

Springfield's Mike Decesar had a game high 27-points. He was 10-for-19 from the field, and grabbed seven rebounds for the Pride. Joel Aponte tallied 14 for SC and pulled down seven rebounds for SC.

Currently, the Gulls post an overall record of 10-5, while the Pride improves their record to 14-5. EC hosts CCC rival Gordon College next Tuesday at 8:00PM. SC hosts MIT on Tuesday at 7:30PM.
