Box Score

(Bristol, RI) Endicott cruised out to a 6-1 after five complete innings in game one against Roger Williams, only to see the home team put up eight runs in the sixth and walk away with the victory. In game two, the Gulls needs an extra inning in a 3-2 victory to earn the split.

In game one Endicott starter, Matt Bishop, sailed into the sixth with eight strike outs while allowing just one run on three hits. Roger Williams opened the bottom of the sixth with two hits, a walk and hit batsman to strike for two quick runs. Ian McCarthy was summoned from the bull pen with one out, the score 6-3 and the bases loaded. He hit a batter and gave up a single to allow the rest of Bishop's runner's to score. Jason Newham took over and gave up a walk and two hits to let McCarthy's runners in before retiring the side on two ground balls. For the inning, RWU scored eight runs on five hits, three walks and two hit batters. Endicott had no answer the top of the seventh and was forced to absorb a numbing loss.

Jason Newham and Gavin Softic were the hitting stars in game one. Newham had four hits, scored a run and batted in another. Softic had three hits, scored a run and batted in two more. Pat Vincent had two hits, two runs scored and one rbi. For the game, EC had six runs on ten hit and stranded 11.

In game two, Ian Parkinson pitched a gem. Up 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Parkinson got two quick strike outs to start the inning. Then an error and a hit put runners on first and second. In an aggressive pick off attempt from behind the runner at first, Parkinson's throw got away from Greg Allain and went down the first base line. The throw was there in time to get the runner for the third out, but instead the runner from second scored RWU's first run. Roger Williams tied in the sixth with a single, stolen base and another single.

After a scoreless seventh, Greg Allain got a one-out single to left in the eighth. Gavin Softic and Dan Gomez each followed with a base on balls to load the bases. Kevin Donahue hit a grounder deep to the hole between short and third; too deep for the double play and Allain scored the eventual game winner on the fielder's choice.

Parkinson (3-1) got two quick outs in the bottom of the eighth, then allowed a single. He threw a gutsy full-count change up to the \#4 hitter to end the game with a strikeout, his seventh of the day. Allain and Vincent each had two hits and Vincent picked up another RBI to bring to his team-leading total to 16 on the season.

After a 10-game week, Endicott gets Monday off. The Gulls will travel to L'il East Conference perennial power, University of Southern Maine, on Tuesday. Gordon comes over for a Wednesday tilt and the Gulls make up an earlier rain out at Bridgewater State on Thursday.
