Port Charlotte, FL -- Senior Jamie Turner allowed just three runs over six plus innings in Endicott's first game of the 2005 season in Port Charlotte, Florida. After allowing a run in the first, Turner settled down and pitched scoreless ball for the next three innings. In all, Turner allowed three runs on just seven hits striking out five.
Endicott got out of a bases loaded, no-out jam in the seventh. Jon Trowt took over for Turner with runners on 1st and 2nd and allowed a single to load the bases. The next batter smashed a line drive over third baseman, Adam Labbe's, head. Leaping high in the air, Labbe snagged it and dove to the bag, doubling off the runner at third. The next batter hit a high pop-fly into the triangle in center field and Brendan Tiani made a diving catch when both infielders lost it off the bat.
Endicott's lone run came in the sixth. With two out, Matt Bishop singled and Greg Allain walked. Pat Vincent reached on a strike three wild pitch and Bishop scored all the way from second on the catcher's errant throw to first. It looked as if the rally might continue. Kevin Donahue singled sharply to left, but it was hit too hard to score Allain and EC ended the inning with the bases loaded.
The Gulls had rallies in the first and eighth as well but could not get the key hit to push across a run. Fitchburg extended its 3-1 ninth inning lead scoring three time after two were out with no one on base.
The Gulls return to action on Monday versus Benedictine College of Illinois in a 10:00 am double header.
