Beverly, MA -- The Gulls jumped out early in game one to take a 6-0 after three innings and held on for the win. In game two, the Gulls took a 3-1 lead into the 7th but could not hold it and took a 4-3 loss.
Dan Gomez was the hitting star for EC in game one with three hits including a two run single in the first inning and a double in the third. Pat Vincent hit his first homerun of the season and Gavin Softic and Steve Vidmosko each had two hits apiece. Ian Parkinson improved his record to 5-1 with five strong innings of work allowing just two runs. Jason Newham and Jon Trowt pitched a scoreless inning each to wrap up the game.
Game two got to the fifth inning tied at one apiece. Gomez was a hitting star again for Endicott with a two run homer to left to give the Gulls a lift. Starter Mike Daggett pitched very well and got the first out of the sixth inning before walking a man and having another reach on an error. Newham was summoned again and recorded two quick outs to end the threat.
Newham went out for the seventh and got the first out with a strikeout. He then allowed two hits and a walk to load the bases. Trowt came on to relieve again. He threw a wild pitch to Shawn Fehr that allowed a run to score. Then Fehr did the rest of the damage with a single that plated the next two runners and gave Nichols its first lead of the night.
Lefty Chris Demers came on a pitched a 1-2-3 seventh to get a save and preserve a win for Adam Blaha.
The split moves Endicott to 13-5 in CCC play and moves Nichols 14-6. The Gulls wrap up CCC play tomorrow at New England College in Henniker, NH. The double header starts at 2:30.
The CCC tournament is scheduled to start Wednesday, with eight of the 11 baseball playing institutions in the field.
