Box Score

Port Charlotte, FL -- In game two of a double-header versus Benedictine the Gulls revenged the first game loss and tallied their first win of the season. Behind junior pitcher Matt Bishop (11 strike outs and a home run of his own) the Gulls dominated the game.

Game One - Looking to break into the win column after Sunday's loss to Fitchburg State, Endicott sent senior, right-hander, Greg Allain, to the mound in the first game against Benedictine College of Illinois. His outing was not true to his usual form as he lasted just two and one-third innings. In that time, Benedictine scratched out six hits, none of which was hard. Endicott's defense, which was outstanding on Sunday against Fitchburg, committed three errors behind Allain forcing him to throw extra pitches. In all, Allain allowed seven runs, of which only three were earned.

Offensively, the Gulls were held to four hits by Benedictine pitcher Josh Meniery. Freshman Gavin Softic picked up his first two collegiate hits as did transfer freshman Joe Orlando. Joe's hit was a long double to left field which led to Endicott's only run. He was driven in by another freshman, Kowen Drake, who picked up an RBI with an infield single.

Game two was a different story. Junior Matt Bishop took the hill and pitched a 1-2-3 first inning to set a new tone for the Gulls. Greg Allain got the first run of the game after walking in the second. He went all the way to third on an errant pick off attempt from the mound and Steve Vidmosko knocked him in with a crisp single up the middle.

Softic made it 2-0 in the third with an RBI ground out in the second inning scoring Pat Vincent who singled, stole second and went to third on Erik Fields' single. Endicott widened the gap in the fourth with three more runs featuring and two-run triple by Vincent.

Bishop was dominant through five innings allowing only one unearned run of his own making, as he threw a come-backer over the first baseman's head. However, that was his only blemish. For the game, he threw a two hitter and struck out 11. He helped his own cause with a mammoth home run in the bottom of the fifth to deep left field.

Endicott tacked on five more in the sixth off three hits, two walked and a Benedictine throwing error. The final score was 12-3.
