Endicott Sweeps Final Weekly Honors of 2021

BEVERLY, Mass. - Following a 3-0 week which culminated in the team's eighth Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championship, the Endicott women's volleyball team saw Amanda Gilbert (Hopkinton, Mass.)Riley Donahue (South Windsor, Conn.), and Emma Ruel (Duxbury, Mass.) sweep the final weekly honors of the 2021 season. The Gulls swept through UNE and Salve Regina in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively, before defeating Roger Williams 3-1 in the CCC championship match on Saturday.

Gilbert earned her first CCC Player of the Week nod after leading the team with 48 kills in the three wins while also adding 25 digs, seven aces and 58.5 points. The All-CCC First Team outside averaged 4.8 kills/set, 2.5 digs/set, .7 aces/set and 5.85 points/set while hitting .467 (48-6-90) over the three victories. Gilbert saved her best performance for last, posting a season-high 21 kills in the title-clinching 3-1 win over Roger Williams.

Donahue, who earlier in the week was named CCC Rookie of the Year, claimed her fourth CCC Rookie of the Week honor following the team's run to the CCC championship. The freshman averaged 3.1 kills/set, 2.6 digs/set and 3.5 points/set, all of which were above her season averages. The South Windsor, Conn. native produced a double-double performance in the championship match, posting 15 kills and 12 digs for her sixth double-double of the year.

The third honoree of the week was libero Emma Ruel as the Duxbury, Mass. native claimed the honor for the first time in 2021. Ruel anchored Endicott's defensive efforts throughout a week in which the Gulls held their opponents to a collective .114 average over the three matches (95-58-325), including holding Roger Williams to a .126 average in the CCC title match. Ruel averaged 3.3 digs/set while her receive helped the Endicott offense hit at a .311 clip for the week (133-38-305), well above the team's season average of .235.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (21-8) will travel to Rochester, N.Y. for the NCAA DIII women's volleyball tournament where they will take on Babson (22-7) in the opening round at RIT.
