Gulls Offensive Impresses in 3-1 Win Over Suffolk

BEVERLY, Mass. - Behind an offensive attack that saw five Gulls hit for a .500 average or better (min. 5 attempts), the Endicott women's volleyball team knocked off the Rams of Suffolk University by a 3-1 final. With the win, Endicott improves to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play, while Suffolk falls to 5-8 overall and 0-2 in the CCC.

Leading the charge for the Gulls was senior outside Amanda Gilbert (Hopkinton, Mass.), as she finished with a team-best 13 kills and only two errors on 22 attempts to hit .500 even. The senior added five digs, two assist blocks and an ace to her performance. Nicole Winkler (Southborough, Mass.) (5-0-8, .625), Colleen McAvoy (Coventry, Conn.) (6-1-10, .500), Krystina Schueler (Trumbull, Conn.) (7-0-12, .583) and Riley Donahue (South Windsor, Conn.), (7-1-10, .600) all finished hitting .500 or better as Endicott finished with a .300 team average with 48 kills and just 15 errors on 110 attempts. 

Danica Glover (Seal Beach, Calif.) and Lauren McGrath (Franklin, Mass.) orchestrated the Endicott attack, finishing with 18 and 17 assists, respectively. Glover added a team-best four service aces to go along with seven digs while McGrath finished with an ace and four digs.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls held the edge over the Rams in almost every category, including kills (48-43), hitting percentage (.300-.137), assists (46-41), aces (9-6), digs (43-41), and blocks (8-5).
  • Endicott started the match hitting .357 in the first set as a team (12-2-28) before improving to a .417 average (17-2-36) in the second.
  • Alexandra Tecun (Hawthorne, Calif.) finished with a team-best nine digs in the win.
  • Endicott is now 5-0 against Suffolk in the all-time series.
  • The Gulls raised their 2019 CCC Championship banner before the start of the match today.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott will play at Tufts on Wednesday night in non-conference play at 7:00 PM, while Suffolk will travel to Nichols for a CCC match on Thursday night for a 7:00 PM start.
