Endicott Falls to Wesleyan 3-1

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The Endicott women's volleyball team fell to Wesleyan (Conn.) 3-1 on Thursday night in non-conference play. The loss drops Endicott to 10-6 overall on the season while Wesleyan improves to 10-1.

The Gulls dropped a tight first set by a 25-22 final before dropping the second 25-17. Not content to go easily, the Gulls would rally and pull out a 29-27 win in the third to close the match to 2-1, but the Cardinals would counter with a 25-19 fourth set to close the match with a 3-1 win.

Amanda Gilbert (Hopkinton, Mass.) and Rylie Donahue (South Windsor, Conn.) would tie for the team-lead with 16 kills each while both players finished with double-double performances as Gilbert picked up 16 digs while Donahue finished with 15. Krystina Schueler (Trumbull, Conn.) finished with a match-high .450 average after notching 11 kills and just two errors on her 20 attempts.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Setters Lauren McGrath (Franklin, Mass.) and Danica Glover (Seal Beach, Calif.) finished with 24 assists each while Glover led the team with three aces.
  • Emma Ruel (Duxbury, Mass.) finished with a career-high 15 digs to lead the Endicott defensive efforts.
  • Endicott held an 11-5 edge in total blocks in the match.
  • The two teams have now traded 3-1 decisions in their last two meetings as Endicott claimed a 3-1 win in 2018. 
  • Wesleyan entered the match ranked third in the most recent NEWVA poll, while Endicott was eighth.

Endicott (10-6, 3-0 CCC) will have a quick turnaround as the Gulls travel to Babson tomorrow to take on AVCA No. 3 Trinity (Texas) at 3:30 PM. Wesleyan (10-1, 4-1 NESCAC) will play host to NEWVA No. 2 Middlebury on Friday at 7:30 PM.
