Endicott Kicks Off 2021 Campaign With a 3-0 Sweep of Southern Maine

The Endicott women's volleyball team celebrates a block in the team's sweep of USM to open the 2021 season.

BEVERLY, Mass. - Playing in front of a home crowd for the first time since the 2019 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship, the Endicott women's volleyball team swept Southern Maine 3-0 on Wednesday night by scores of 25-15, 25-20 and 25-10.

The Endicott offense was paced by five women whom finish with five kills each in graduate students Nicole Winkler (Southborough, Mass.) and Meghan Frederick (Sunapee, N.H.), seniors Carley Gagnon (Goffstown, N.H.) and Colleen McAvoy (Coventry, Conn.), and junior Krystina Schueler (Trumbull, Conn.)

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Winkler tied with Danica Glover (Seal Beach, Calif.) for the team lead in aces with two as the Gulls held an 8-5 advantage in aces as a team.
  • Glover also finished with 10 assists, two digs and a kill in her collegiate debut, while junior Lauren McGrath (Franklin, Mass.) finished with a match-high 22 assists to go along with three digs.
  • Junior Alexandra Tecun (Hawthorne, Calif.) finished with 14 digs to lead all players, while Mary Kate Murphy (Sudbury, Mass.) posted five in her one set of play.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott will travel to western Massachusetts to take on Springfield and Skidmore in a tri-match at Springfield College on Saturday. The Gulls take on Springfield first at 10:30 AM. Southern Maine travels to St. Joseph's of Maine where they will take on UNE on Friday night.
