Endicott Handles UMass Boston In 3-0 Sweep

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott women's volleyball team swept visiting UMass Boston 3-0 by set scores of 25-11, 25-16 and 25-23. With the win, Endicott improved to 3-1 on the year while UMass Boston fell to 1-3.

For the match, senior Amanda Gilbert (Hopkinton, Mass.) and junior Krystina Schueler (Trumbull, Conn.) tied for the team-high in kills with eight each. Gilbert's came on 11 error-free swings as she hit .727 to go with 12 digs, while Schuler hit .333 (8-2-18). Freshman Riley Donahue (South Windsor, Conn.) also impressed offensively as she finished the match with seven kills and two digs while hitting for a .286 clip.

The Gulls dominated the first set, hitting at a .533 clip (9-1-15) while holding the visitors to a -.087 (7-9-23) performance, before following it up with almost an equally impressive .409 (12-3-22) to .074 (8-6-27) effort in the second set. The third set would prove to be the closest of the three as both defenses stood tall, with Endicott claiming a slight edge in team kills, 9-8, as the Gulls pulled out a 25-23 set win to clinch the sweep.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott's Danica Glover (Hawthorne, Calif.) guided the offense with 17 assists over her three sets of play while also chipping in with five digs. 
  • Nicole Winkler (Southborough, Mass.) and Kathryn Ross (Bristol, Conn.) each contributed three kills in the win while Winkler also led the team with two block assists.
  • Emilia Czapiewska (Saint Paul, Minn.) led the visitors offensively with 10 kills on 25 attempts with eight errors (.080), while Carsen Komminsk (Worthington, Ohio) paced the offense with 18 assists.
  • A big key to victory for the Gulls came from the serving line, where Endicott finished with six aced and just seven errors, to seven aces and 17 errors for the Beacons.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott will play host to Bowdoin on Friday night at 6:00 PM before traveling to Cambridge, Mass. on Saturday to compete in the MIT Invitational. UMass Boston is set to host NVU Lyndon on Friday night before hosting Salve Regina and Bates on Saturday.
