Endicott Takes Down #20 Bowdoin 3-1

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott women's volleyball team took down a nationally ranked opponent for the second straight season on Friday night, this time knocking off No. 20 Bowdoin 3-1. The Gulls won by set scores of 25-13, 25-19, 12-25, 25-20 to improve to 4-1 on the season, while Bowdoin falls to 1-1.

The win over the No. 20 nationally ranked opponent is the second-highest in program history, following a 3-0 win over then No. 14 Christopher Newport in 2019. As of Monday's poll, Endicott is 21 points towards the AVCA Top 25.

Leading the way for the Gulls was the duo of Carley Gagnon (Goffstown, N.H.), and Krystina Schueler (Trumbull, Conn.), as the two combined for 20 of the team's 37 kills. Gagnon led the Gulls with 11 kills on 23 swings with just two errors to hit .391, while Schueler posted nine kills and just one error on 19 swings to hit .421.

Danica Glover (Seal Beach, Calif.) was a force from the service line, finishing the contest with a match-high six aces to go with 13 assists and nine digs. Fellow setter Lauren McGrath (Franklin, Mass.) finished with a double-double, posting 15 assists and 12 digs while chipping in three aces. The setters finished with nine of the team's 11 aces.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Schueler, Colleen McAvoy (Coventry, Conn.) and Nicole Winkler (Southborough, Mass.) all contributed to the defensive efforts at the net, combining to record two solo blocks and 13 assist blocks on the night. Schueler led all players with six total blocks (1 solo, 5 assist), while McAvoy finished with five (1 solo, 4 assist), and Winkler finished with four (4 assist).
  • For the second straight match, Endicott won the serving battle, posting 11 aces to nine errors, while holding Bowdoin to five aces and eight errors. 
  • Libero Alexandra Tecun (Hawthorne, Calif.) finished the match with 10 digs and seven assists, while freshman Emma Ruel (Duxbury, Mass.) made her collegiate debut and chipped in seven digs.

WHAT'S NEXT 

Both teams travel to Cambridge, Mass. tomorrow to take on Keene State and MIT in the MIT Invitational. Endicott takes on MIT at 10:30 AM and Keene State at 2:30 PM.
