Endicott Splits Pair of 3-1 Matches at Springfield Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Endicott women's volleyball team traveled to western Mass. to take on Springfield and Skidmore on Saturday and came out 1-1 on the day. The Gulls opened the day with a 3-1 setback to host Springfield (25-23, 21-25, 25-19, 25-14) before claiming a 3-1 win over Skidmore (25-13, 25-20, 20-25, 25-15) to end the day. 

In the opener against Springfield, Endicott saw Colleen McAvoy (Coventry, Conn.) produce an 11-1-20 (.500) line, while also posting a team-high three aces, to lead the Gulls in the loss. Danica Glover (Seal Beach, Calif.) finished the match with a team-best 25 assists while Amanda Gilbert (Hopkinton, Mass.) produced a double-double, finishing with a team-high 12 kills and tying for the team-high with 11 digs.

Springfield was led by freshman Kylie Wixted (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) as she finished with 10 kills on 16 error-free attempts, and Natalie Billet (Commack, N.Y.), who finished with a match-best 18 kills on 41 swings.

In the second match of the day, Endicott dominated offensively, hitting .368 as a team compared to Skidmore's .129. Carley Gagnon (Goffstown, N.H.) hit .529 for the match after producing an 11-2-17 line, while also chipping in seven digs on the defensive end. Opposite Krystina Schueler (Trumbull, Conn.) was just behind, finishing with 10 kills and just one error on 18 attempts as the junior hit .500 for the match. Graduate middle Nicole Winkler (Southborough, Mass.) finished with seven kills on eight error-free swings to hit a match-high .778 while also leading the Gulls with three blocks.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORES

  • Endicott's Alexandra Tecun (Hawthorne, Calif.) was impressive defensively on the day, finishing with 11 digs against Springfield and 21 in the win over Skidmore, averaging four digs per set on the day.
  • Glover again led the Gulls in assists against Skidmore, posting 21, while Lauren McGrath (Franklin, Mass.) finished with 20.
  • Endicott is now 2-2 all-time against Skidmore, having won the last two meetings by scores of 3-1.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott returns to action on Wednesday night when the Gulls play host to UMass Boston at 7:00 PM. Springfield and Skidmore both travel to Schenectady, N.Y. on Friday afternoon to compete in the Union Invitational.
