Endicott Opens CCC Play with 3-0 Sweep of Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Endicott women's volleyball team swept Salve Regina on the road to open Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Tuesday night. The Gulls claimed the sweep by set scores of 25-19, 25-21, 25-17, to improve to 5-3 (1-0 CCC) on the season.

Endicott was led by the pin play of Amanda Gilbert (Hopkinton, Mass.) and Riley Donahue (South Windsor, Conn.), who combined for 21 of the team's 40 kills on the night. Gilbert posted a double-double, recording 11 kills (11-1-31, .323) and 11 digs, while Donahue finished just behind with 10 kills (10-3-23, .304) and seven digs.

Defensively, Alexandra Tecun (Hawthorne, Calif.) led all players with 16 digs, while Colleen McAvoy (Coventry, Conn.) finished with a match-high five blocks (3 solo, 2 assist), adding seven kills and a .312 average to her box score (7-2-16).  

Orchestrating the Endicott attack were Danica Glover (Seal Beach, Calif.) and Lauren McGrath (Franklin, Mass.), who finished with 23 and 13 assists, respectively. Each setter added six digs on the defensive end, while Glover led all players with four service aces.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • With the win, Endicott is now 24-4 all-time against Salve Regina dating back to 2002. 
  • Endicott has not lost a CCC match since the 2018 season, having gone 9-0 since the start of 2019.
  • The Gulls held the edge in hitting (.252 to .183), blocking (8 to 2.5), aces (7-0), and digs (51-49).

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (5-3, 1-0 CCC) will return to the Nest on Thursday to host NEWMAC foe Wheaton (Mass.) at 7:00 PM. Salve Regina (4-4, 0-1 CCC) will play host to Framingham St. on Thursday at 7:00 PM.
