Bentley Blanks Women’s Tennis, 7-0

BEVERLY, Mass. – In their first match since October 24, 2016, the Endicott women's tennis team fell to NCAA Division II opponent Bentley University, 7-0, on Friday evening at the South Campus Courts.

Today's format featured singles play first then doubles action second in order to get the majority of the match in before visibility became an issue in regards to play. All six singles flights were contested and decided, but only No. 3 doubles finished before the match was called due to darkness.

Gillian Freter (Scituate, Mass.) stood out for the Gulls in singles play as the sophomore dropped a 2-6, 6-2, 11-9 hard-fought decision to Jill Kamphaus (Walpole, Mass.). Meanwhile in doubles, Hayley Barnett (Marlboro, N.J.) and Reilly Fitzgibbons (Killingworth, Conn.) were tied 6-6 at the No. 1 position against Rachel Petrini (Madison, Conn.) and Katie Tynan (West Barnstable, Mass.) before the match was called.

"It took us a little while to get our competitive feet underneath us today with this being our first match since October," said Endicott women's tennis head coach Jeremy Howard. "I think the doubles scores are a bit more reflective of where we are at this spring. Overall, we were just excited to be back out there competing as a team."

Endicott (11-5) hosts Mount Holyoke College on Saturday, April 15 at 1 PM. Bentley (14-8) visits Holy Cross this Sunday at 10 AM.
