Nichols Edges Women’s Tennis, 5-3

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's tennis team dropped a 5-3 decision to Nichols College on Wednesday evening in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup at the South Campus Tennis Courts.

Nichols earned a 2-1 edge at the conclusion of doubles, and claimed wins at No. 2, No. 1, and No. 3 singles, respectively, to clinch its second conference victory of the season (4-2, 2-0 CCC).

Meanwhile, Endicott saw Maxine Bergstein (Hingham, Mass.) and Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) register their second victory of the season in doubles from the No. 1 slot by a 9-8 (10-8) score. Bergstein also picked up a win at No. 6 singles (6-4, 6-1), while Gillian Freter (Scituate, Mass.) rounded out the list of winners for the Gulls with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at No. 5.

"Kudos to Nichols on a solid win. Some of their newcomers came up big today," said Endicott women's tennis head coach Jeremy Howard. "We are now looking forward to getting back to work tomorrow in a North Shore Cup matchup against Salem State on the road.

  • Freter is 3-1 in singles this season, which includes a 1-0 record at No. 3, 2-0 mark at No. 5, and a 0-1 line at No. 6.

NOTES

  • Nichols snapped Endicott's 20-match CCC regular season winning streak today.
  • The Gulls' last lost prior to the start of their 20-match win streak came against Nichols in a 5-4 loss on September 29, 2013.

Endicott (2-3, 2-1 CCC) travels to Salem State University tomorrow for a non-conference matchup at 3:30 p.m. Nichols (4-2, 2-0 CCC) hosts Curry on Saturday, September 17 in league play at 11 a.m. before traveling to Babson for a non-conference contest at 3:00 p.m.
