Women’s Tennis Shuts Out Salem State, 9-0

SALEM, Mass. – The Endicott women's tennis team defeated Salem State University, 9-0, on Thursday evening to notch its second shutout of the season.

Senior tri-captain Jamie Zompa (Marlborough, Mass.) highlighted the victory with a pair of wins at No. 2 doubles (8-4) and No. 5 singles (6-0, 6-1), while freshmen Mackenzie Judd (Sherwood, Wisc.) and Katherine Longworth (Meriden, Conn.) picked up their first career victories at No. 3 doubles (8-5).

"It feels good to get back into the win column, but we are now looking forward to getting back into conference action on Saturday against Salve Regina," said Endicott women's tennis head coach Jeremy Howard. "I'd also like to give a special shout out to Mackenzie and Katherine for securing their first collegiate victory."

  • Zompa picked up her second victory of the season in both singles and doubles action today.
  • Zompa teamed up with sophomore Alexandra Barmore (Southington, Conn.) in doubles.
  • Maxine Bergstein (Hingham, Mass.) and Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) turned in an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles, their 23rd career victory as a pairing.
  • Sophomores Hayley Barnett (Marlboro, N.J.), Lauren Rahr (Waterford, Conn.), Margot Andreasen (Portland, Maine), Gillian Freter (Scituate, Mass.), and Alexi Losano (Saugus, Mass.) were all winners for the Gulls in singles.
  • Barnett won her match 6-0, 6-0, while Rahr, Andreasen, and Freter all won by 6-0, 6-1 scores.
  • Losano rounded out the group with a 6-1, 6-0 victory in her match.

Endicott (3-3, 2-1 CCC) travels to Salve Regina University on Saturday for a league match at 11 a.m. Salem State (0-2, 0-1 LEC) visits UMass Dartmouth this Saturday for a conference matchup at 1 p.m.
