Endicott Wins on Senior Day 9-0 over Eastern Nazarene

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott women's tennis team celebrated the careers of senior captains Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) and Jamie Zompa (Marlborough, Mass.) with a 9-0 triumph over Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent Eastern Nazarene. The Gulls also earned the victory as part of the Endicott College Homecoming and Family Weekend. 

Endicott now sits at 6-3 overall and 5-1 in conference matches this season heading into the final week of CCC regular season matches. Rhodes along with junior teammate Maxine Bergstein (Hingham, Mass.) earned an 8-3 win at the No. 1 singles flight while taking down her No. 4 singles opponent 6-0, 6-0. Zompa also won her No. 3 doubles match up with sophomore Alexandra Barmore (Southington, Conn.) 8-0 and followed up that effort with a 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 5 singles.

"Senior Day is always a special day especially when the seniors account for four of the wins on the day," said head coach Jeremy Howard. "The squad will rest up the remainder of the weekend and turn our attention to the last week of the CCC regular season.

Along with the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles decisions listed earlier, sophomores Reilly Fitzgibbons (Killingworth, Conn.) and Lauren Rahr (Waterford, Conn.) notched an 8-1 No. 2 doubles victory

Sophomore Hayley Barnett won No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-1 to even her season record at that position at 4-4

Sophomores Margot Andreasen (Portland, Maine)Gillian Freter (Scituate, Mass.), and Alexi Losano (Saugus, Mass.) rounded out the singles victories for Endicott

ITA Regional Championship Experience

Barnett and Fitzgibbons competed at the ITA Regional Championships at MIT on Friday afternoon and suffered first round defeats. Barnett fell 6-2, 7-5 to her opponent from Amherst while Fitzgibbons dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to a Nichols player. In doubles action, Rhodes and Bergstein fell 8-3 to opposition from Bowdoin.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (6-3, 5-1 CCC) hosts CCC member Western New England (4-2, 4-2 CCC) on Wednesday, September 28 with a start time of 3:30 p.m. The Golden Bears have a road match against Johnson State on Sunday, September 25 before Wednesday's trip to Beverly.
