Women’s Tennis Stymies Curry, 9-0

MILTON, Mass. – The Endicott women's tennis team shut out its third straight opponent on Tuesday evening as the Gulls defeated Curry College, 9-0, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup on the road.

Endicott only dropped one game in singles action, and just five total in the entire match to move its overall record to 5-3 overall/4-1 CCC. Sophomore Hayley Barnett (Marlboro, N.J.) highlighted play for the Gulls with victories in both her singles (No. 1, 6-0, 6-0) and doubles (No. 2, 8-3) matches.

"I am happy with our effort today, but we will now shift our focus to Saturday's match against Eastern Nazarene," said Endicott women's tennis head coach Jeremy Howard. "I'm looking forward to ITA's on Friday and also Senior Day this Saturday as we get a chance to honor Mackenzie and Jamie who have meant a lot to our program over the last four years."

  • Barnett teamed up with classmate Margot Andreasen (Portland, Maine) in No. 2 doubles flight.
  • Maxine Bergstein (Hingham, Mass.) and Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) claimed a clean 8-0 victory at No. 1 doubles to start today's match.
  • Freshmen Mackenzie Judd (Sherwood, Wisc.) and Katherine Longworth (Meriden, Conn.) turned in an 8-1 triumph at No. 3 doubles. The duo is undefeated on the season as a pairing (2-0).
  • In singles, Lauren Rahr (Waterford, Conn.), Gillian Freter (Scituate, Mass.), Jamie Zompa (Marlborough, Mass.) and Alexandra Barmore (Southington, Conn.) all won in straight sets at the No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, and No. 6 spots, respectively.
  • Rahr leads the team in wins at singles with a 6-2 record (4-0 at No. 4, 0-1 at No. 3, 2-1 at No. 4).
  • Freter ranks second on the squad with a 5-1 singles record (2-0 at No. 3, 1-0 at No. 4, 2-0 at No. 5, 0-1 at No.6).
  • Alexi Losano (Saugus, Mass.) rounded out the list of winners for the Gulls with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the No. 5 position.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (5-3, 4-1 CCC) will play in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championships on Friday before hosting Eastern Nazarene on Saturday at 1 p.m. as part of this weekend's Homecoming and Senior Day festivities.

Curry (1-6, 0-5 CCC) hosts Rhode Island College on Thursday in non-conference action at 3 p.m.
