Gulls Handed 7-2 Loss At Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Endicott field hockey team suffered a 7-2 setback at the hands of the host Colby College Mules Sunday afternoon at Bill Alfond Field.

Trailing 6-0, sophomore forward Sophia Cogliano (Saugus, Mass.) and junior midfielder Melanie Kaleta (Bellingham, Mass.) got the Gulls on the board with back-to-back scores in the 46th and 57th minutes, respectively.

Colby added one more score on the day to close out the non-conference contest with seven different Mules finding the back of the cage as the team won their third game in a row.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE    

  • Colby leads the all-time series, 2-0, dating back to the 2015 season with the programs' first meeting.
  • Senior goalkeeper Cheka Ventura (Lawrence, Mass.) fell to 7-6 on the season as she made a game-high 11 saves.
  • Ventura has five games this season with 10+ saves.
  • Cogliano now has six goals on the season and leads the team with 16 points,while Kaleta registered her second tally.
  • Junior midfielder Madi Wood (Bristol, Vt.) picked up her third assist of the season and has recorded back-to-back games with an assist for the first time in her career.
  • The Gulls are 0-3 against NESCAC opponents this season and 1-5 against non-conference foes.

FOR THE FOES

  • The Mules led, 4-0, at the half.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Riley Whitmyer (Bentleyville, Ohio) stopped eight shots as she improved to 2-3 on the season.
  • Colby took 10 penalty corners to Endicott's five and out-shot the Gulls, 28-20.
  • Senior midfielder McKayla Blanch (Tewksbury, Mass.) led the way with one goal and two assists for the Mules.
  • Blanch has a team-best seven assists this season.
  • Sophomore midfielder Kallie Hutchinson (Pownal, Maine) scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season.
  • Junior defender Kat Restrepo (Columbus, Ohio) earned her second defensive save of the season (tied for team lead).

NOTES

  • Colby won last season's first-ever meeting, 4-1, in Beverly, Mass. on 09/13/15.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (7-6, 6-1 CCC) hosts the University of New England on Wednesday, October 12 at 7:00 p.m.

Colby College (5-6, 2-5 NESCAC) returns to play on Saturday, October 15 at Amherst at 11:00 a.m.
