Larson Scores Twice In Gulls' 4-3 Defeat At Salve Regina

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. — The Endicott field hockey team fell, 4-3, to the host Salve Regina Seahawks in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday evening at Gaudet Field in the Play 4 the Cure game.

Endicott scored first as junior forward Olivia Larson (Cheshire, Conn.) buried her first of two markers on the day to give the Gulls an early 1-0 lead in the 8th minute.

Salve Regina struck back to go up 2-1 at the half before Larson knotted the score at 2-2 in the 36th minute coming out of the break.

Senior midfielder Sarah Thompson (Clinton, Conn.) registered the go-ahead goal for the Seahawks in the 51st minute that proved to be the difference, despite the two teams trading goals down the stretch.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott and Salve Regina split the regular-season series, as the Gulls downed the Seahawks, 6-3, on 10/01/16 in the most recent meeting before today.
  • Endicott still leads the all-time series, 20-4, dating back to the 2003 season.
  • Senior goalkeeper Cheka Ventura (Lawrence, Mass.) made 10 saves as she fell to 7-8 overall and 6-3 CCC on the year.
  • Ventura has made ten more or saves in four games this season.
  • Ventura now has 258 career saves, surpassing current assistant coach Chelsea DeFeo for fourth on the program's all-time list.
  • Larson scored twice for the second time this season.
  • Junior defender Emylee Wood (Kensington, N.H.) tallied her second assist of the season, while sophomore defender Maggie O'Reilly (Cheshire, Conn.) recorded her first career assist.
  • Junior midfielder Melanie Kaleta (Bellingham, Mass.) scored her third goal of the season in the 58th minute.

FOR THE FOES

  • Junior goalie Jessie Severino (Bradford, Conn.) made a game-high 15 saves as she improved to 8-6 on the season.
  • Junior midfielder Amber Cody (Pawling, N.Y.) registered her CCC-leading 16th goal of the season and also paces the conference with 40 points this season.
  • Four student-athletes scored for Salve Regina; Amber Cody, freshman forward Ashley Cody (Pawling, N.Y.), Thompson, and junior forward Lindsey Venuto (Foxboro, Mass.).

Endicott (7-8, 6-3 CCC) hosts Roger Williams on Tuesday, October 18 at 7:00 p.m.

Salve Regina (8-6, 4-4 CCC) welcomes Gordon to its campus on Tuesday, October 18 at 6:00 p.m.
