Cogliano, Hirtle Earn CCC Weekly Awards

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.
— Sophomore forward Sophia Cogliano (Saugus, Mass.) and sophomore midfielder Emily Hirtle (Rowley, Mass.) brought home Commonwealth Coast Conference Field Hockey Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively, as announced today by the conference office.  


FIELD HOCKEY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

SOPHIA COGLIANO | SO. | FORWARD | SAUGUS, MASS.
Cogliano, a first-time CCC Offensive Player of the Week recipient, tallied two goals and one assist to help the Gulls to a 2-0 record on the week in conference play. Cogliano registered her first two-goal effort of the season in the team's narrow 3-2 victory over Western New England as she book-ended her performance against the Golden Bears by scoring the Gulls' first and game-winning goal in the game. Cogliano cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 28th minute and then nailed the game-winner with 14 seconds remaining in regulation for her second game-winning goal of the season. Cogliano picked up her fourth assist of the season in the team's 6-3 win over Salve Regina on Saturday.


FIELD HOCKEY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

EMILY HIRTLE | SO. | MIDFIELDER | ROWLEY, MASS.
Hirtle, a first-time CCC Defensive Player of the Week honoree, tallied one goal and two assists to help the Gulls to a 2-0 record in conference play on the week and push their record to 6-4 overall and 5-1 in the CCC. Hirtle recorded one assist at Western New England on Wednesday prior to registering her fourth goal of the season to open the scoring against Salve Regina. Hirtle added an assist versus the Seahawks for her second game with at least one goal and one assist of the season. Hirtle is currently tied for the team lead with 13 points this season.

The Gulls are back in action on Wednesday, October 5 at 7:00 p.m. at Bates as they take to the road for a three-game stint before returning home to host the University of New England on Tuesday, October 12 at 7:00 p.m. on North Field.
