Gulls Fall To No. 16 Babson, 6-1

 

BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Endicott field hockey team fell, 6-1 to host No. 16 Babson College Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at MacDowell Field.

Babson took a 2-0 lead into halftime behind goals from junior forward/midfielder Jacki Merrigan (Canton, Mass.) and senior midfielder Victoria Spofford (Merrimac, Mass.) in the 10th and 21st minutes, respectively.

Junior midfielder Samantha Crowley (Leicester, Mass.) scored the lone goal for the Gulls  on a feed from sophomore midfielder Meghan Stanton (Newburyport, Mass.) in the 54th minute to bring the score to 3-1 at the time.

The Beavers tacked on three more unassisted tallies, including two from junior forward Elise Towers (Cicero, N.Y.) down the stretch to keep Babson's record unblemished.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Beavers are now 7-2 all-time against Endicott.
  • The Gulls have dropped seven straight to the Beavers in head-to-head matchups dating back to 2010.
  • Endicott is 2-5 on the road at Babson in the all-time series.
  • Crowley notched her second goal of the season and is tied for the team lead.
  • Crowley has scored in back-to-back games for the second time in her career.
  • Stanton picked up her first assist of the season.
  • Senior goalkeeper Cheka Ventura (Lawrence, Mass.) made a season-high 13 saves as she moved to 1-1 on the season.
  • Ventura has not stopped 13 or more shots since her freshman season. (Career-high is 17 against UNE on 11/08/14.)

FOR THE FOES

  • Babson was ranked No. 16 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III Preseason Poll – Aug. 30.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Deirdre Barry (Longmeadow, Mass.) made two saves for the undefeated Beavers as she improved to 5-0-0 in goal.
  • Towers currently leads the team with eight goals on the season.
  • Sophomore midfielder Ashley Tango (Reading, Mass.) scored once and added one assist.

NOTES

  • Babson shut out Endicott, 5-0, in the most recent meeting before today on 09/04/15 in Beverly, Mass.

Endicott (1-1, 0-0 CCC) returns to action on Tuesday, September 13 at MIT at 6:00 p.m.
