Gulls Secure 2-0 Road Win At Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. The Endicott field hockey defeated host Roger Williams University Hawks, 2-0, on the road in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday afternoon at Bayside Field.

Junior midfielder Emily Hirtle (Rowley, Mass.) scored her third goal of the season (unassisted) as she tipped in a rebounded ball in the 17th minute to give the Gulls a 1-0 lead they carried to the half.

Sophomore defender Maggie O'Reilly (Cheshire, Conn.) added an insurance goal in the 67th minute on a feed from junior midfielder Madi Wood (Bristol, Vt.) to seal the deal for the Gulls.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott leads the all-time series, 6-1, dating back to the 2013 season (3-1 on the road).
  • The Gulls have outscored the Hawks, 26-5 in this span.
  • M. Wood tallied her first assist of the season, while O'Reilly notched her third goal of the year.
  • Senior goalkeeper Cheka Ventura (Lawrence, Mass.) stopped four shots as she improved to 3-2 (2-0 CCC) and picked up her first shutout of the season.
  • Ventura surpassed Rose Bradley '16 and Kelly McNamara '01 to move into fourth on the program's career wins list with 17 career victories.

FOR THE FOES

  • Sophomore goalkeeper Mya Lunn (Marion, Mass.) made nine saves as she fell to 0-5 and 0-2 in conference play.
  • Senior captain Alexandra Baxter (Groton, Mass.) led the Hawks with two of the team's seven shots on the day.

NOTES

  • The Gulls split the season series with the Hawks in 2015 by winning at home (W, 2-1) and losing on the road (L, 1-0) in the most recent meeting before today on 10/17/15.

Endicott (3-2, 2-0 CCC) travels to Biddeford, Maine to take on host University of New England on Tuesday, September 20 at 5:00 p.m.

Roger Williams (0-5, 0-2 CCC) goes on the road at Nichols on Tuesday, September 20 at 7:00 p.m. for a CCC tilt.
