No. 15 Amherst Defeats Endicott 7-0

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott field hockey team fell to No. 15 Amherst College, 7-0, in non-conference action on Thursday evening at North Field.

Amherst Senior forward Sara Culhane (Princeton, N.J.) paced the visitors with two goals, while Caroline Fiore (Essex Fells, N.J.) contributed two assists. Heather Brennan (Carlsbad, C.A.)Katie Bergamesca (McLean, V.A.), Caroline Feeley (Walpole, Mass.), Mary Margaret Stoll (Avon, Conn.) and Kendall Codey (Summit, N.J.)  all found the back of the net once.

Stoll netted the first goal of the game 6:24 into the contest on a feed from Fiore to get the Lord Jeffs offense going. Amherst went scoreless until the 18:32 mark when Cody deposited her first strike of the game into the back of cage for a 2-0 advantage.

Amherst outshot Endicott, 19-1, in the first half and 27-4 total en route to the 7-0 victory.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott senior goalkeeper Cheka Ventura (Lawrence, Mass.) made 10 saves in the contest
  • Eight of Ventura's 10 saves came in the first half.
  • Amherst held a 18-5 advantage in penalty corners, including a 13-0 margin in the first half.
  • Senior Emily Paladino (North Reading M.A.) registered her second defensive save of the season the 34:50 mark of the game.

FOR THE FOES

  • Senior goalkeeper Emily Horwitz(Wilmington, Del.) made her only stop of the match at the 30:28 mark of the first half.
  • Mary Grace Cronin (Arlington, Mass.), Shannon Tierney (Garden City, N.Y.) and Emery Sorvino (New Vernon, N.J.) also contributed one assist each in the game.  
  • Culhane led Amherst with six total shots.

NOTES

  • Amherst now sit 3-0 against out of conference opponents
  • This game marks the first ever meeting between Amherst and Endicott

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (3-4) will host CCC rival Gordon on Saturday, September 24th during Family Weekend and Homecoming for a 12:00 p.m. start. Amherst (3-2) hosts a NESCAC matchup against Williams on Saturdayat 11:00 a.m.
